The Kitchen Cupboard: Our 5 must-have herbs and spices in the food cupboard

We are all big foodies at the studio, loving nourishing, hearty food- which carries over to the style of food that we make for our retreats! 🥰  We thought we'd share our 5 must-have herbs and spices we always have in the food cupboard and are always on heavy rotation! We think these are versatile and can be used in a huge range of dishes for a flavour boost.

Our 5 must-have herbs and spices:

(in no particular order)

• Chilli flakes
We love using this on everything! Even if you are not a spice lover, sometimes adding a sprinkle of chilli flakes to your marinades, stews, or sauces gives it a lovely warmth. Which we love for colder seasons of the year.

• Paprika
Aah, such a staple and one that brings a little sweetness and a glorious colour to your dishes. Scrambled eggs? Curry? Stew? Fried rice? Paprika is always such a nice addition!

• Garlic powder / garlic granules
One of our very used spices.. for an extra garlicky flavour when you are tired and not wanting to chop up garlic.. win win.

• Mixed herbs
This bottle of mixed herbs gets replenished SO quickly in our cupboard! We most use this for stews and pasta sauces (red or white). An easy way to boost flavour!

• Cinnamon
Last but not least, the mighty cinnamon - used in pancakes, cookies, cakes, curries, marinades.. bringing a sweet, earthy flavour to your food. L O V E.

Top tip: Add cinnamon powder to your curries and enjoy an earthy, warming flavour! Anddd to honour our Malaysian roots, if we had to add a few more spices to the list, it would be star anise, cardamom and cloves - all four of these spices bring a signature Malaysian earthiness to curries!!

Simple, versatile, and full of soul! Just the way we like it. 🥰
